a) Road Construction
Nael & Bin Harmal Hydroexport (NBHH), a firm of civil engineers from the United Arab Emirates, is developing the over 55km of roads within the city. NBHH is one of the most versatile and successful contractors in the UAE. Some of the projects carried out by the company include multiple contracts on Yas Island, Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Formula One Circuit, etc.
Summary of work done so far include:
· Completion of earthwork on the main boulevard (Road I A and 1 f1B) that runs through the estate
· Completion of earthworks on the secondary roads (Class B roads) within the estate
· Completion of earthworks on the internal roads for the commercial area
· Completion of clearing and cambering of the tertiary roads (Class C Roads) within the estate.
· Commenced concrete work on Main Boulevard (1B) and class B roads. The concrete works include the drains, culverts, sidewalks and kerbs
b) Estate Water Scheme
The Centenary City is designed to be self-sustaining in water supply. NAIRDA Limited, an Israeli mechanical and electrical engineering company has completed the private water scheme for the community. The next phase of work is the reticulation (distribution) of the first 500 units of homes in the estate community
c) Golf Course Construction
BOUMAN Golf from South Africa is handling the construction of the 18-hole championship golf course and driving range.
Summary of work done so far include:
· Clearing of first nine holes and the driving range
· Completion of first dam / artificial lake at the driving range · Construction of bunkers and the golf course layout
· Establishment of nursery for the golf course green
· Greening of first four holes and driving range
· Installation of irrigation equipment
d) Electricity
We have adopted a phased approach to power supply. In the initial phase of the project, the city will get its power supply from Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). We have applied to Enugu Distribution Company of PHCN and have obtained permission for the establishment of electricity sub-station in Centenary City. We have also connected and sourced power from one of the priority 33KVA lines that runs through the estate.
Krisob Engineering Limited has completed construction of the electricity Sub-Station. Summary of work done includes:
· Set-out and fencing of the sub-station area
· Connection of the estate sub-station to the 33KVA power line · Construction of the sub-station control room and security gate · Construction of the concrete base for the two 15MVA transformers
· Procurement and installation of the transformers and other electrical components for the sub-station.
Subsequently, it is our intention to deploy a medium-sized independent power plant (IPP) within the city for more reliable power supply. The IPP will supply both the commercial and residential sections of the city. Private Estates International has shortlisted two firms for the last round of discussions: Oando Power Limited and Interlinked Energy Limited. Both companies have deployed similar power plants in some estates and industrial areas in Nigeria.
e) Administrative Building
One of the critical success factors of the project is efficient pre and post construction administration of the city. Consequently, one of the first projects we intend to complete is the Centenary City Administrative Building - located on the approach into the city. This building will house our Sales Office, Show rooms, Project Office, and residences for key project staff. We prioritized this building because we intend to use it to showcase our competence in building construction and finishing.
We have concluded the civil works and roofing of the building and currently focused on the finishes.
f) Police Post, Access Gate and Perimeter Fencing
In line with our promise of delivering a secure community, we have since commenced construction of the estate access gate, perimeter fencing and police post. We have completed the police post (which comes with some accommodation for the police officers) and almost through with the access gate. We envisage that immediate fencing and establishment permanent police presence in the city will convey strong impression of security within the community. Electronic surveillance cameras will also compliment this, which forms part of our security framework.
g) Home Construction
We have commenced construction of homes for some of the Landowners and have also concluded the civil works and roofing of one of our Prototype homes. Landowners are free to choose their own builders but such builders must be pre-qualified by Private Estates.
